A beginners course typically consists of 4 training sessions, usually on Saturdays or Sundays, each session being approximately 3 hours. Courses are run with 2-6 archers of varying ages (typically 1 or 2 students per coach).  Further individual tuition for beginners is available at an additional cost.

You will learn to shoot a recurve bow on the practice butts and have the opportunity to shoot 3D targets in the woods.  We have bows to suit beginners of all ages, both right or left-handed.  We welcome beginners under ten, subject to a successful taster session and agreement by the coaching team.  In our experience, it is unusual for children under eight years old to be able to maintain the extended focus and concentration required.

To help us cater for your needs, you will need to complete and return a booking form in advance.  Payment must also be received two weeks prior to the start of the course to secure your place. On the day, all we ask is that you come dressed for the weather and keen to learn.  Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult throughout the beginners course and once they have graduated – we find families have most fun when the grown-ups shoot too!

Next Course Dates

We have resumed our beginners course coaching and have a waiting list for our next courses in 2022.

We are also currently running separate NFAS coaching sessions for those that have existing archery experience, e.g. with Archery GB, but are new to the NFAS field archery format. Dates for these sessions are arranged as needed throughout the year.

Please contact us if you're interested in NFAS coaching sessions, or to join our waiting list for full beginners courses in the future.

The beginners course fee is £90 per adult and £60 per under-16.
The fee includes:

  • Coaching sessions led by an experienced NFAS or Archery GB coach
  • All archery equipment provided
  • NFAS Insurance cover

For experienced archers new to NFAS field shooting, we also offer coaching sessions covering the NFAS field archery format and shooting rules. Please contact us to arrange a place.

Existing field archers with NFAS membership are welcome to apply for club membership at anytime.
