NFAS Coaching

We offer fully insured NFAS coaching for beginners and for experienced archers from other organisations (Archery GB, BLBS, EFAA etc.) that are new to NFAS field archery. Unfortunately we are not currently able to provide separate taster or 'Have-a-Go' sessions.

Experienced Archers

We offer NFAS coaching sessions for those who already have archery experience but are new to NFAS field archery. If you have previously shot with Archery GB, BLBS, EFAA etc. and would like to become an NFAS member, you will need to be signed off by an NFAS coach.

Our coaching sessions cover the NFAS shooting rules, course safety, scoring systems, familiarisation with the competition bow style categories and NFAS sign-off.

Existing field archers with current NFAS membership are welcome to apply for club membership at any time.

Beginners Courses

If you're new to archery you'll need to complete a beginners course, with training sessions typically running over 4 to 6 weeks with an NFAS coach. Courses are scheduled on various dates throughout the year, according to coach availability - please contact us if you're interested and we'll let you know about upcoming dates.

You will learn to shoot a recurve bow on the practice butts and have the opportunity to shoot 3D targets in the woods.  We have bows to suit all ages, both right or left-handed.  We welcome beginners under ten, subject to a successful taster session and agreement by the coaching team.  In our experience, it is unusual for children under eight years old to be able to maintain the extended focus and concentration required.

To help us cater for your needs, you will need to complete and return a booking form in advance.  Payment must also be received two weeks prior to the start of the course to secure your place. On the day, all we ask is that you come dressed for the weather and keen to learn.  Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult throughout the beginners course and once they have graduated – we find families have most fun when the grown-ups shoot too!

The beginners course fee is £100 per adult and £60 per under-16. The fee includes:

  • Coaching sessions led by an experienced coach
  • All archery equipment provided for the course
  • NFAS Insurance cover

Please Note:
We welcome crossbow archers but all crossbows must be approved for shooting under NFAS rules - see here for the requirements.
Compound crossbows are not allowed at the club.
